THE EASTERN INSTITUTE, INC. TOHO GAKUIN The Eastern Institute, Inc., was founded by Hajime Nakamura(b. Nov.,1912, d. Oct..10,1999, age86) through the study committee he formed originally for the compilation of a dictionary of Buddhist terms, and with the eventual aim to spread the study and results of such study of Eastern thought. It was formally established as a nonprofit institute in 1970, and the Toho Gakuin school was opened in 1973.
